Well, I don’t know why.
The Duck has a post up about the 11(+) Chinese getting dusted by xenophobes and is aghast.
Gosh, we have a race war to deal with and well, if the Taliban will destroy priceless statuary at Bamiyan there should be no surprise.
The Duck is also exercised about the Ashcroft hearings (scroll down). Again, why the surprise?
Congress, I say again, Congress gave Ashcroft that kind of latitude with the passing of the PATRIOT Act just a month or so after 911. Congress threw the Fourth Amendment out the window and now kinda, sorta wonders why the AG can do what he does.
(The judge rules against Congress and its ‘righteous’ indignation, go back to …, do not draw a card or pass Go.)
Finally, the Duck is perplexed about Pentagon suggestions that the Taiwanese Air Force fighters might launch an attack against the Three Gorges Dam project should war occur.
Now, really. One just should not lend credence to disinformation campaigns.
Still, I must say, the dam buster project is slightly more plausible than The Day After Tomorrow, a movie I just can’t wait to miss.
Finally, one of the Duck’s respondents to the post wondered aloud about why Taiwanese TV stations might air programs about such stuff.
Hey. It sells. Scroll for the pic.
I hope you know my post about the Pentagon suggesting Taiwan bomb the Three Gorges Dam was tongue in cheek -- the whole thing was an absurdity.
Sorry, but I find the slaughter of 11 innocent men to be horrifying. Don't you?
Last, no matter how dreadful the Patriot Act is, my post was about the haughty, self-righteous performance of John Ashcroft in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, at which he refused to give answers, restricted access to vital information and kept hiding under the mantra, "We're at war so I can do whatever I want." None of that can be attributed to the patriot Act, only to a callous, nasty, unaccountable government that we should replace at the earliest possible opportunity.
